Zyban is a medication designed to help individuals quit smoking. It’s crucial to understand its uses, potential risks, and proper usage before starting treatment.

**Important Safety Information**

This medication carries a warning regarding an increased risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors, particularly in children and adolescents with depression or other mental health conditions. Close monitoring is essential for any worsening of their condition, self-harm ideation, or unusual mood changes, especially during the initial months and after dosage adjustments. Promptly contact a doctor if any of these side effects occur.

**Before Using Zyban**

Drug interactions are possible. Inform your doctor about all medications you are currently taking, including prescription and over-the-counter drugs. Do not use Zyban if you are already taking bupropion for depression, a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI), or thioridazine. Caution is advised when taking antidepressants, psychiatric medications, certain blood pressure medications (beta-blockers), heart medications (propafenone, flecainide), warfarin, decongestants, diabetes medications, diet pills, levodopa, HIV protease inhibitors (ritonavir), quinolone antibiotics (ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin), seizure medications, tranquilizers, tramadol, narcotic pain relievers (acetaminophen with codeine), or other nicotine-containing products.

Also, disclose any use of drugs that might increase seizure risk when combined with bupropion, such as phenothiazines (thioridazine), tricyclic antidepressants (amitriptyline), isoniazid (INH), or theophylline.

Inform your doctor about any medical conditions, including mental or mood disorders (bipolar disorder), kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes, head injuries, tumors (brain or spinal cord), a history of drug or alcohol addiction, allergies, pregnancy, or breastfeeding.

Avoid using Zyban if you have a history of eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia) or seizures, or muscle or nerve conditions. Discuss alcohol consumption with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medication.

**How to Use Zyban**

Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully. Zyban comes with a medication guide and patient information leaflet. Read these materials thoroughly. If you have questions, consult your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. Swallow the tablets whole; do not break, crush, or chew them. If taking multiple doses daily, space them at least 8 hours apart.

**Storage**

Store Zyban at room temperature, away from heat and light. If you miss a dose, skip it and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not take two doses at once.
