Have you ever considered turning your unwanted items into cash using eBay? I’m about to share my experiences of selling on eBay and why I find it so rewarding. It all started with a conversation with my friend Jim at a local bar. He was enthusiastically describing the items he had bought and sold on the auction website, and he was surprised that I hadn’t tried it.

Intrigued, I asked Jim if he’d help me sell some of the clutter gathering dust in my home. He happily agreed, and we set a date.

I’ll never forget my first auction: an old mobile phone that had been languishing in a drawer for months, destined for the trash. Jim suggested I could make some money from it, so I listed it on eBay. Honestly, I didn’t expect it to sell. I started the auction at just 99 pence and set it to run for five days. Initially, nothing happened, which was a bit disheartening. However, on the last day, with only three hours remaining, someone placed a bid! I couldn’t believe it; I was going to make 99 pence!

With five minutes left, the auction still had only one bid. Then, things went crazy. In those final minutes, six more bids came in, and the phone sold for around £10. I was thrilled with that price!

That first sale hooked me, and I began scouring my house for other items to sell. Since then, I’ve sold music records, football programs, clothing, and even antiques.

Of course, there are downsides. The most annoying is when a winning bidder doesn’t pay. Despite sending reminders, some people simply ignore you. Thankfully, this has only happened a few times.

My favorite items to sell are antiques. These auctions seem to attract more bidders than others, and you can often find real bargains while sourcing them. Around 80% of my sales now involve some form of antique.

I find selling on eBay far more exciting than buying. However, I have snagged some great deals over the years and will continue to search for more. If you haven’t tried eBay yet, I highly recommend giving it a shot. Good luck and happy selling!
