Recently, while gathering camping equipment, I was overcome by childhood memories, so powerful they brought a tear to my eye. One camping trip stands out above all others.
I was around eight or ten years old, and my family frequently camped, often at the beach, which I adored. The surf, the breeze, and the endless exploration made it magical. One trip, in particular, remains etched in my memory.
We arrived at the beach, eagerly set up our tent, and my dad quickly went fishing while I plunged into the water. As night fell after a day of adventure, we settled into our sleeping bags, the sound of the waves lulling us to sleep. But that night, the waves seemed unusually close.
I woke to chaos. Waves were crashing inside the tent! A full moon had caused an exceptionally high tide, and we were engulfed in water. Amidst the commotion, I tumbled out of my sleeping bag into the cold water, only to be met by a wave in the face. I couldn’t help but laugh amidst the screaming.
The scene was comical: my parents scrambling around as our gear floated away. I ran, jumped, and laughed uncontrollably. I don’t remember much else about that trip; whether we stayed or left. What I do remember is the joyous, chaotic night under the moonlit sky, waves relentlessly crashing into our tent. This truly was one of the most memorable camping moments of my life.
