C.S. Lewis’s beloved children’s classic, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, comes to life on screen in this captivating adaptation. The story begins in wartime England, where the four Pevensie children are sent away from London for safety. They find themselves at the country estate of the eccentric Professor Digory Kirke, and initially, they grapple with boredom.
Their boredom is broken when Lucy discovers a peculiar wardrobe. Stepping inside, she doesn’t find clothes, but a snow-covered world. Her siblings are skeptical, but eventually, curiosity wins, and they all enter the wardrobe, transporting them to Narnia. This magical land is under the spell of the White Witch, who has plunged it into an eternal winter, devoid of Christmas joy.
The children encounter the noble lion Aslan, the true ruler of Narnia, and embark on a quest to defeat the White Witch. However, their journey is fraught with peril, and one of them succumbs to the Witch’s dark influence. Amidst talking animals, mythical creatures, and enchanting spells, the Pevensie children must fight to liberate Narnia from the icy grip of the White Witch and save their brother from the clutches of evil.
Despite its 2 hour and 20 minute runtime, the movie remains engaging throughout. The performances of the young actors are compelling, and Tilda Swinton delivers a memorable portrayal of the White Witch.
A word of caution to parents: The film carries a “Parental Guidance Suggested” rating due to several violent scenes, making it unsuitable for very young children.
