A growing global awareness highlights the critical importance of environmental protection. Individuals, schools, communities, and businesses are increasingly proactive in creating a healthier planet. One notable example is Dayton Power & Light’s innovative Air Quality Improvement program. This initiative involves retrofitting their Stuart power station near the Kentucky border to significantly reduce harmful emissions. This forward-thinking approach will contribute to cleaner air, protect vulnerable populations from respiratory illnesses, and ensure a less polluted environment for future generations. Dayton Power & Light is collaborating with Voith, a leading European manufacturer specializing in paper, automotive, and energy technologies, to acquire equipment for this crucial retrofitting project. Both companies demonstrate a strong commitment to developing and implementing environmentally responsible technologies. Dayton’s coal-fired system will be upgraded with induced draft fans powered by eight Voith Vorecons. With a substantial output of 4.4 gigawatts, Dayton Power & Light provides electricity to approximately half a million households. The Stuart power station comprises four coal-fired plants, each generating 600 MW of electricity. Implementing the air quality improvement program necessitated the installation of advanced filters. These new filters require the implementation of the Voith Vorecon-driven fans. Each Vorecon measures approximately 23 feet in length and weighs 20 tons. They offer a superior alternative to frequency inverters, which are often more expensive and less reliable. Through these types of improvements, businesses are actively contributing to a healthier planet for future generations, finding innovative and cleaner methods to provide energy to households nationwide.
