The Isuzu Ascender, manufactured by General Motors, entered production in 2003, filling the void left by the discontinued Isuzu Trooper. Unfortunately, 2006 marked the final year for this mid-size sport utility vehicle. After this year, production ceased. Built on the 4WD GMT 360 platform, the Ascender shared its architecture with vehicles like the GMC Envoy, Chevrolet Trailblazer, Buick Rainier, Oldsmobile Bravada, and Saab 9-7 X. Engine options included a 4.2-liter Vortec I6 and a 5.3-liter Vortec V8, providing consumers with a choice in powertrain. The Ascender faced stiff competition in the SUV market from rivals such as the Toyota 4Runner, Nissan Pathfinder, Ford Explorer, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Chevrolet Tahoe, Toyota Sequoia, Ford Expedition, and GMC Envoy.

Initially, the 2003 Isuzu Ascender offered a seven-passenger configuration. In 2004, a five-passenger version was introduced. Both configurations were available until the end of its production run in 2006.
