The growing global awareness of environmental protection has spurred action across all sectors, from individuals to large corporations. Businesses are increasingly implementing innovative solutions to minimize their environmental impact and contribute to a more sustainable future.
Dayton Power & Light (DP&L), for example, has launched a significant Air Quality Improvement program. This initiative involves retrofitting their Stuart power station near the Kentucky border to substantially reduce emissions. These improvements are crucial for maintaining clean air, safeguarding public health by preventing respiratory illnesses, and ensuring a healthier environment for future generations.
DP&L sources some of the advanced equipment for this retrofit from Voith, a leading European manufacturer specializing in paper, automotive, and energy technologies. Both companies demonstrate a strong commitment to developing and implementing environmentally responsible technologies.
The retrofitting project at Dayton’s coal-fired power plant includes the installation of induced draft fans driven by eight Voith Vorecons. With a total output of 4.4 gigawatts, DP&L provides electricity to approximately half a million households. The Stuart power station houses four coal-fired plants, each generating 600 MW of electricity.
The implementation of the air quality program necessitated the installation of new filters. Due to the increased differential pressure, this also required the installation of new fans powered by Voith Vorecon. These Vorecons, measuring approximately 23 feet in length and weighing 20 tons, offer a superior alternative to traditional frequency inverters, which are often more expensive and less reliable. These types of changes show how businesses are investing in creating a healthier planet for the future.
Businesses are actively exploring and adopting cleaner energy solutions to meet the energy demands of households nationwide. Through technological advancements and a commitment to sustainability, companies are playing a pivotal role in protecting the environment.
