Known globally as the Ford Econoline Van or the Ford E-Series, this vehicle takes on the name Ford Chateau Wagon in the Philippines, bearing a similar design with subtle variations. Production of the Ford Econoline Van began in 1961. Built on the FR VN platform, it entered the market as a full-size van, competing with models like the Chevrolet Express, GMC Savana, Dodge Sprinter, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, and Freightliner Sprinter.

These vans serve both cargo and passenger transportation needs. Within Ford’s vehicle lineup, the Econoline and E-Series share close ties with the F-Series pickup trucks.

Currently in its fourth generation, the initial Econoline generation gained popularity with utility companies, including the Bell Telephone System. The first generation Econoline served primarily as a cargo van but could accommodate up to eight passengers. The second generation saw the engine relocated from the rear to the front. In 1975, the third generation introduced more ergonomic controls and a full frame design. By 1983, Ford’s blue oval logo was integrated into the front grille. A redesigned fourth generation arrived in 1992, offering a wide array of engine options to cater to diverse customer preferences.
