The internet landscape is increasingly plagued by plagiarism, as individuals and organizations seek to inflate their web content by appropriating the work of others. This practice raises serious ethical concerns and can have detrimental effects on the reputation of all involved.
I’ve observed a troubling trend on certain freelance platforms where employers request ‘rewrites’ of existing articles. While it’s possible these are updates of the employer’s original content, the potential for plagiarism is undeniable. As a member of such a site, I’ve been largely disappointed by the types of jobs posted. While some are legitimate, many seek low-quality articles or rewrites at exploitative rates, such as fully researched articles for a mere $10. Such offers are unrealistic and devalue the work of professional writers.
I choose to avoid these potential promoters of plagiarism and instead focus on working with clients who value original, high-quality content. A website filled with cheap, plagiarized material will inevitably reflect that in its quality and performance. There are no ethical shortcuts to building a reputable online presence. You always get what you pay for.
To all professional writers, I urge you to uphold copyright standards. Failure to do so only contributes to the spread of unoriginal content that degrades the internet.
