From childhood fascination with model airplanes and cars to a fulfilling career, my journey took an unexpected turn when I landed a job in architectural scale model making. Leaving behind my model-collecting hobby during architecture school, I never imagined I could merge my passion for miniatures with my professional life.

Architectural scale modeling offers the chance to create entire miniature communities. Clients often desire a comprehensive model that showcases not only the proposed building but also its surrounding environment. This provides context, breathing life into their vision and giving a tangible representation of their project.

Despite technological advancements, architectural scale model making remains a meticulous, hands-on craft. While individual pieces can be stamped out, saving considerable time, the core processes demand human skill. Adapting architectural blueprints, designing pieces, creating molds, trimming parts, and assembling everything require the precision and artistry of skilled craftsmen. Automation has yet to conquer this intricate art form.

I am thankful that machines haven’t replaced the human element in architectural scale modeling. My job is a dream come true, and its unique nature lies in its handcrafted approach. Each model is custom-ordered, requiring bespoke creation, ensuring that the individual craftsman remains indispensable. Mass manufacturing won’t work in this field, because each project demands custom work.
