An Australian poll reveals a significant disparity between men and women regarding fuel price concerns. The survey, conducted by NEWS.com.au and Coredata, found that women drivers are demonstrably more worried about rising petrol costs than their male counterparts.

Specifically, 86% of female motorists expressed concern over escalating fuel prices, compared to 80% of male drivers. Furthermore, a larger percentage of women (66%) are actively trying to reduce their petrol consumption compared to men (59%). This aligns with women often receiving lower car insurance premiums due to statistically safer driving habits.

The survey also indicated that nearly half of the women surveyed are considering purchasing smaller, more fuel-efficient cars. This is a consideration for only a third of the men surveyed. Smaller cars typically have lower insurance premiums, making this a financially prudent move for women.

While these concerns are highlighted in Australia, rising fuel costs are a global issue. Drivers in Britain, regardless of gender, have also felt the financial impact of increasing petrol prices and are likely considering similar cost-cutting measures, such as downsizing their vehicles.

Finally, it is worth noting that purchasing a new car provides an opportune moment to re-evaluate car insurance policies. Some providers offer specialized motor insurance for women, recognizing their generally safer driving profiles, as also confirmed in a study earlier this year from Chrysler Group.
