Applying asset tags and labels correctly is crucial for their effectiveness. Proper surface preparation is the most important factor in ensuring a strong, lasting bond. The surface must be completely free of dirt, oil, and grease. These contaminants will prevent the adhesive from properly adhering to the equipment. An alcohol wipe is the ideal cleaning method. These wipes are readily available and easy to use. Simply tear open the sachet, remove the wipe, and gently clean the area where the label will be applied. Allow approximately 30 seconds for the alcohol to evaporate completely, leaving a pristine surface. Because these labels use a very strong adhesive, precise placement is essential. Certain materials, like void and destructible vinyl, cannot be repositioned without damage. To aid in alignment, lightly mark the corners of the intended label placement with a marker before cleaning with alcohol. Remember, the ink itself can interfere with adhesion. After applying the label, allow sufficient time for the adhesive to cure fully. For vinyl destructible labels, a good rule of thumb is to allow 2 hours for 40% bond strength, 1 day for 60% strength, and 3 days for full 100% strength.
