Throughout my life, I’ve found immense joy and fulfillment in helping others. I firmly believe in the principle that what you give out comes back to you. This belief is constantly reinforced when former colleagues, friends, or acquaintances remind me of how I’ve inspired, guided, or supported them through challenges. These experiences continuously motivate me to contribute positively to the world.
We can never predict the positive impact of our actions. Our gestures might inspire, encourage, educate, motivate, or even transform someone’s life. Regardless of the outcome, people will always remember that they mattered to you.
In both business and life, people are paramount. They are your customers, colleagues, employees, leaders, managers, investors, and vendors. Your business’s success hinges on the people you interact with, and how you treat them significantly affects your profitability.
Here are some ways to help people in your business and demonstrate their value:
1. Provide exceptional customer service.
2. Grant a single parent an afternoon off.
3. Compensate someone fairly, even generously.
4. Send a handwritten note to an employee acknowledging their excellent work.
5. Share a helpful book with a subordinate.
6. Tell someone struggling, “I’m here to support your success,” and genuinely mean it.
7. Visit and chat without a specific agenda.
8. Share a useful resource you’ve discovered.
9. Foster a safe environment for open and honest communication.
10. Allow people to express their feelings and listen attentively without interruption.
I urge you to consider the people you influence, the lives you touch, and the positive changes you can initiate. These are the hallmarks of true leadership and, in my opinion, outweigh financial gains, job titles, or office size.
You can do good while doing well. While it may require innovative thinking, focusing on helping others will lead to immeasurable success.
