The automotive landscape is shifting. While gasoline engines still reign supreme in the U.S., a recent report from J.D. Power and Associates, highlighted in the Specialty Equipment Market Association’s (SEMA) first quarter 2007 report, indicates that hybrid and diesel vehicles are steadily increasing their market share. Two primary factors are driving this change: rising fuel costs and growing environmental consciousness.

According to Kevin Riddell, Automotive Forecasting Manager at J.D. Power and Associates, diesel vehicles present a compelling solution for the U.S. market, particularly for manufacturers with established operations in Europe, where diesel cars are already widely popular. Modern diesel engines offer a significant advantage, boasting approximately 30 percent better fuel economy compared to comparable gasoline engines. Furthermore, advancements in technology have dramatically improved diesel engine performance, bringing noise levels, filtration systems, and overall driving experience in line with those of gasoline engines.

Hybrids, while currently holding a smaller portion of the market, are experiencing remarkable annual sales growth. Consumers are increasingly drawn to the environmental benefits and fuel savings associated with hybrid technology. Rental companies, delivery services, and taxi fleets are incorporating hybrids into their vehicle fleets at an accelerating pace. AMSOIL offers a range of high-quality synthetic lubricants suitable for both hybrid and diesel vehicles, further enhancing fuel economy and minimizing environmental impact through extended drain intervals.
