While it might seem strange, winter is actually the prime time to snag the best deals on boats and personal watercraft. Waiting until spring or summer can lead to disappointment when the models you want are already sold out. According to Bryan Seti, national marketing manager for Yamaha Motor Corp., shopping early guarantees the best selection and prices.

“This past year, our best-selling WaveRunners were gone before July 4th, and even our most affordable model, the VX110, was nearly sold out by June,” Seti explains. “When supply dwindles, finding a good deal becomes much harder for consumers.”

Winter boat shows offer a unique advantage. Dealers are eager to move inventory as they receive new models. “Our dealers are currently receiving their 2006 orders, which take up significant space,” Seti notes. “A crowded sales floor motivates dealers to make deals.”

To make the most of a winter boat show, consider these tips:

* **Plan Ahead:** Research boats and personal watercraft beforehand and identify the exhibits you want to visit. Advance preparation minimizes distractions.
* **Go on a Weekday:** Weekdays are typically less crowded, making it easier to inspect boats and engage with manufacturers’ representatives and dealers.
* **Stay Focused:** If you’re serious about buying, consider leaving the kids at home. Closing a deal requires your full attention.
* **Dress Comfortably:** Wear shoes that are easy to slip on and off, as you’ll be climbing aboard exhibits. Your feet will thank you later!
