We always see articles about baby showers written from a woman’s perspective. But what about a man’s? Don’t we deserve to know something about these events too?

Recently, my wife hosted a baby shower for a friend, and I felt completely lost on how to help. Luckily, I was banished from the house before the main event, but I did assist with the setup. Baby showers begin with selecting a venue and sending out invitations. However, the actual party requires much more planning than I initially realized.

Did you know that some baby showers feature cakes made entirely of diapers? I found it odd, too, but diaper cakes are apparently a popular centerpiece these days. And while those aren’t edible, there are still plenty of treats to enjoy. From regular cakes to appetizers to baby block-shaped petit fours, there’s more than enough food to go around.

Of course, no baby shower is complete without games. These can be a little silly, but they’re usually a hit. The women share humorous stories about their own experiences with babies and bring up embarrassing moments from the mother-to-be’s past. There are countless websites dedicated to baby shower games. Search for “baby shower games,” and you’ll be amazed by the bizarre activities people have come up with.

Gifts are a huge part of baby showers. And I mean huge! It’s incredible how many presents the expecting mother receives. While the mom-to-be often registers for essential items like sheets and strollers, many guests prefer to buy cute, non-registry items. Apparently, adorable clothes and stuffed animals are more appealing than crib sheets. I get the logic, but I’ve heard that expecting mothers often dislike this because they really need the basics. Ultimately, the mom ends up buying those essential supplies herself.
