Acid reflux, regardless of its specific cause or severity, can often be significantly managed through dietary adjustments. Certain food categories are known to trigger heartburn in many individuals. These commonly include spicy foods, high-fat foods, and dairy products. Chocolate, tomatoes, and even some herbal supplements can also induce heartburn-like symptoms, especially when consumed shortly before going to bed.
If you’ve identified specific foods that exacerbate your heartburn, try consuming them earlier in the day rather than close to bedtime. When eaten during waking hours and periods of activity, your body is better equipped to manage the stomach acids involved in digestion.
Many individuals experience heartburn predominantly at night. Elevating the head of your bed can provide relief. Note that simply stacking pillows doesn’t achieve the same effect. Raising the entire head of the bed by at least 12 inches has demonstrated effectiveness in reducing heartburn symptoms.

Even if you require prescription medication, it’s beneficial to eliminate trigger foods and increase your intake of fresh, raw foods to better control your symptoms.
