I recently attended the Adult Industry Awards 2007, a massive event divided into adult productions (DVDs, performers) and sex toys. Drawn by the latter, I spent the weekend exploring new products and identifying key industry players.
The first day was an expo resembling a high-end market, showcasing vibrators, dildos, strap-ons, and other sex toys—some of which were quite perplexing. Major brands like Doc Johnson had a strong presence, promoting their Pretty End butt plugs and Jenna Jameson vibrators/dildos. These new lines featured appealing pastel colors, with the G-spot “Brianna” range being particularly exciting. Doc Johnson kindly provided a Baby Blue “Brianna” for review, which I hope to test soon.
The awards ceremony on day two held a minor surprise: the Rabbit Pearl vibrator won Best Female Toy by a significant margin. An interesting resurgence occurred in the male sex toy category, with the Penisator (a device worn on the penis) winning Best in Class as voted by Heat magazine readers. Its simple design offers popular sensations for both partners.
Unsurprisingly, the classic Rabbit Vibrator, with millions of sales worldwide, easily won Best Selling Toy of 2006. Nasstoys’ Glow in the Dark beads were the runner-up, followed by California Exotics’ “Shanes World Hottie.”
With over 50,000 attendees, the event was a success. It was great to connect with familiar and new faces. I eagerly anticipate another year of innovative products and Expo 2008 in Denmark.
