Let me share a story about someone who struggled immensely in school. This person dropped out at 16, achieving only A’s in physical education. English was a constant battle, resulting in neglected work and poor reading comprehension.
This individual disliked school, often skipping to work from the young age of 13. Summer school became a yearly routine, a mere formality to progress through junior high.
Why am I telling you this? Because that same English-flunking, dropout is now a successful internet marketer. And what does this marketer do? They empower others to discover efficient ways to generate content for websites, articles, autoresponders, and more. And yes, that person is me.
My partner, Lori, and I shared a dream of a portable, location-independent business. This led us to exploring online ventures. We immersed ourselves in a guru program, eager to learn.
The program involved significant reading and writing, which immediately triggered my anxieties. Lori knew my struggles with language. Spell-check felt like it was overloading the computer with errors. The thought of writing was daunting.
However, Lori recognized potential in me and devised a strategy. She started me with keyword research, which I found manageable. Then, she introduced the concept of blogging for our websites. I had minimal computer skills beyond flight simulators; I barely knew how to send an email. Writing a blog felt overwhelming. Lori reassured me, offering to guide me through writing just a few lines.
I began writing short pieces about our websites, constantly relying on Lori to correct my spelling. My days were filled with keyword research and attempts at blogging, with Lori proofreading my work.
Then, Lori challenged me to write an article about a topic I was passionate about, emphasizing that spelling didn’t matter—just write what I knew. I followed her advice, unsure of her intentions. My typing, already slow due to my poor spelling, crawled at a snail’s pace. Nevertheless, I persevered.
One evening, Lori revealed that I was now a published author. I was incredulous. Lori had edited and submitted my “articles.” She proved to me that I could write. I initially assumed she had completely rewritten them, merely adding my name. However, upon reading them, I realized they were my words, simply corrected.
I was astonished and realized that I could write articles and even ebooks. The point of my story is this: If a high school dropout who failed English can write articles and ebooks, so can you.
