The Mazda 929, also known as the Efini MS-9, is a full-size luxury car that debuted in 1973. Initially crafted in Japan, the vehicle was available in coupe, sedan, and station wagon configurations. Early models featured a 1.8-liter inline-four Mazda 1800 engine, producing 83 horsepower. From 1973 to 1981, the Mazda 929 saw five different engine variations.

The second generation arrived in 1981 as a large, front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sedan. It utilized the new HB platform, shared with the Mazda Cosmo. This generation featured three different engine options. The third generation introduced a pillared four-door sedan and a four-door hardtop without pillars. The engine was upgraded to a double overhead cam with twenty-four valves, improving fuel economy, performance, and reliability.

The final generation of the Mazda 929 maintained its luxury status as a premium sedan. It featured a redesigned, more rounded body. Enhancements included a slight increase in horsepower, dual airbags, and a glass moonroof replacing the previous metal unit. The premium package offered wood console trim, a rear armrest storage compartment, leather upholstery, a remote keyless system, and wood interior trim. The vehicle was highly ranked in its class.

Over its thirty-year production run, the Mazda 929 evolved significantly, consistently delivering the safety and luxury that customers desired.
