For years, I searched for ways to improve my well-being, exploring conventional methods that yielded minimal lasting change. I still experienced illness, sadness, and prolonged periods of unhappiness, with joy and peace remaining elusive.
Driven by curiosity, I ventured into the realm of alternative therapies. Over time, I experimented with various approaches, hoping to enhance my body, mind, and spirit. This journey proved transformative.
It’s important to acknowledge that what resonates with one person may not resonate with another. The key is persistence in exploring different avenues until you discover what suits your unique needs.
Often, people claim to have “tried everything,” but upon closer examination, their efforts are limited. It’s worthwhile to continue seeking new possibilities. By doing so, you may find your world expanding through new friendships and valuable self-healing skills.
So, what do I do when I feel lost, in need of direction, or require healing? Here are five fundamental practices that have helped me elevate my spirit, and with consistent application, they can do the same for you:
1. Meditation: Meditation is a powerful self-healing tool that requires nothing but your time. Explore various meditation techniques to find one that resonates with you.
Immerse yourself in quiet contemplation, accompanied by soothing meditation music. This practice can calm your soul and reconnect you with your highest self.
2. Aromatherapy and Essential Oils: Rebalance and rejuvenate your spirit by blending essential oils in an aromatherapy oil burner. I have found the following blend effective for nurturing, support, and healing:
About an hour before bed, place a few drops of the following oils in an aromatherapy oil burner with water (extinguish the flame before turning off the lights):
* 4 drops Jasmine
* 4 drops Rose
* 4 drops Neroli
* 3 drops Lavender
* 3 drops Bergamot
The aroma is divine. I use this blend periodically and experience improved sleep, reduced anxiety and stress, and a sense of lightness. If you have a small bedroom, consider halving the number of drops.
3. Breathwork: Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart. Take three slow, deep breaths using your diaphragm muscles. Inhale through your nose and exhale through slightly parted lips. As you breathe, visualize inhaling your personal power, filling every cell from your diaphragm to the top of your head.
Embody your personal power and notice how much taller, straighter, and stronger you feel. Repeat the steps.
4. Presence: Take a few deep breaths and focus entirely on the present moment.
If you’re reading a book, magazine, or even this article, fully focus on the words and their meaning. In this moment, there is only you and the content you are absorbing.
If you’re at work, concentrate solely on the task at hand and what you need to do to complete it. Nothing else matters except you and the task.
5. Intention Setting: When seeking something new and beneficial, set an intention for what you desire.
For example, if you’re looking for a book to guide you toward a new healing modality or skill, meditate on this intention, set a timeframe, and open your heart to it. You may find the book you need appearing in your life sooner than you think. I often use intention setting to find parking spaces while shopping!
These days, I rarely get sick. Even during medical checkups, doctors find me to be remarkably healthy, despite my attempts to elicit some sympathy.
While I still experience sadness and unhappiness, they are fleeting compared to the past. What endures is a greater sense of peace.
By consistently applying the five practices above, my spirit is lifted, and life becomes more peaceful and joyful.
