The 2006 Acura CL represents a blend of Acura’s commitment to performance engineering and classic coupe styling. Aimed at competing with European Gran Turismos like the BMW 328Ci, Volvo C70, and Mercedes-Benz CLK320, the CL combines heritage with modern technology.
Under the hood, buyers had a choice of Acura’s 3.2-liter VTEC V6 engine, producing 225 horsepower. The interior offered a spacious 96.5 cubic feet of volume, a notable increase over previous models. Dimensions included a length of 192.0 inches and a width of 70.6 inches.
Safety was a priority, with standard front airbags, advanced side airbags featuring passenger height and position sensors, anti-lock brakes (ABS), and a Traction Control System (TCS). An optional Acura Navigation System provided satellite-linked nationwide coverage using a DVD database.
Modifications were available, including CompTech cold air intake, certified exhaust headers, a CompTech high-flow exhaust system, Brembo brakes, a sport suspension with a Titanium front upper strut bar, 19-inch Maya DTM wheels, custom bumpers with side moldings, a deck lid tail spoiler, and custom aluminum exhaust tips.
While the 2006 Acura CL had some drawbacks, such as a navigation system reported to be confusing, limited headroom, and challenging rear seat access, it excelled in other areas. Its quick acceleration, smooth steering and handling, and overall build quality made it a compelling option in the coupe market.
